University of Maryland at University College offers a Certificate in Telecommunications Management for students and professionals in business and technology whose career credentials can be improved through the study of technical knowledge and management skills needed to plan, acquire, operate, and evaluate telecommunications systems. Students will study the usage of telecommunications systems to provide critical management services, including operational structure and environment of the industry, as well as strategic and financial management services.
Students will study topics involving telecommunication systems and the utilization of technology to manage communications. Those classes include orientation to graduate studies at UMUC, information technology infrastructure, structure and environment of the telecommunications industry, network management and design, wireless telecommunications systems, and telecommunications networks.
Students graduating the program will have demonstrated the prerequisite knowledge and qualifications necessary for certification in the management of telecommunications systems. These qualifications include but are not limited to the ability to apply core information technology principles and practices, to work in geographically dispersed teams to produce effective solutions to complex information technology problems, to recommend appropriate information technology solutions based on organizational needs and an evaluation of alternatives, to evaluate professional, individual, organizational, societal, and regulatory implications of information systems and technology, to apply software and system development techniques in the analysis and design of information systems, and to demonstrate ethical, legal, and responsible behavior in the development and deployment of information systems to meet organizational needs.

The University of Maryland, University College is a public university that was founded in 1947. The main headquarters of UMUC is in Adelphi, Maryland, a town that borders College Park. UMUC is one of eleven divisions of the University of Maryland and provides quality educational opportunities for primarily non-traditional adult students. UMUC developed as a result of the popularity of evening programs for adults that were offered by the University of Maryland in the 1920’s. The University of Maryland established the College of Special and Continuation Studies (CSCS) in 1947, and in 1959 it became the University of Maryland College. The UMUC became an independent university in 1970, and in 1988 it became part of the University System of Maryland.
