Program Overview

University of Maryland at University College offers a Certificate in International Trade for students and professionals in business that wish to develop a functional understanding of international trade. Students will study international trade and the legal, economic, regulatory, and ethical issues that reflect the changing commercial, social, political, and technical realities of the global economies experienced by international law trade, multinational companies, or government organizations.  Students will study global business strategies, strategic alliance, the world trade organization, and government relations in organized trade and how those issues are related to business activities.

Students will study the effect of globalization on business and how trade organizations have facilitated trade, and how international trade is achieved. Those classes include orientation to graduate studies at UMUC, strategic management in a global environment, strategic investment and partnering, international trade and economic policy, and international marketing management.

Students completing the program will earn a certificate showing their qualifications and functional education in international trade.  These qualifications include but are not limited to the ability to demonstrate an understanding of the standards and practices regarding trade and international commercial law, to demonstrate an understanding of the theoretical basis of conflict in international trade and the purposes of trade organizations and rules in law, and to demonstrate an understanding of the relationships resulting from different business organizations and the legal effects of establishing trade.

    School Overview

    The University of Maryland, University College is a public university that was founded in 1947. The main headquarters of UMUC is in Adelphi, Maryland, a town that borders College Park. UMUC is one of eleven divisions of the University of Maryland and provides quality educational opportunities for primarily non-traditional adult students. UMUC developed as a result of the popularity of evening programs for adults that were offered by the University of Maryland in the 1920’s. The University of Maryland established the College of Special and Continuation Studies (CSCS) in 1947, and in 1959 it became the University of Maryland College. The UMUC became an independent university in 1970, and in 1988 it became part of the University System of Maryland.

    The UMUC offers associate's, bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees in professional subjects, all of which can be earned online or in hybrid formats.
