Program Overview

University of Maryland at University College offers a Certificate in International Marketing for students and professionals in business whose career opportunities and credentials can be impacted through development of understanding of the principles and practices of international marketing. Students will learn about marketing issues that are encountered while entering foreign markets as part of the program. Individuals will study cultural differences, market access barriers, market research, and market entry strategies as utilized by marketers.

Students will develop a fundamental understanding of marketing tasks, responsibilities, and the policies and procedures responsible for international and global marketing operations. Those classes include orientation to graduate studies at UMUC, international marketing management, international trade and economic policy, consumer behavior, and legal and ethical issues in global communications.

Through this certificate program, students demonstrate their qualifications in the basic principles of marketing through international and global efforts. These qualifications include but are not limited to the ability to demonstrate an understanding of the fundamental principles of marketing, including the 4 P’s, to demonstrate proficiency in fundamental business principles and practices that allow for firms to operate in domestic and global markets, to demonstrate critical-thinking and analysis skills to develop marketing solutions, to analyze ethical issues that impact business decisions from economic, political, legal, and social perspectives, and to evaluate the application of technology as a strategy for competitive advantage in business.

    The University of Maryland, University College is a public university that was founded in 1947. The main headquarters of UMUC is in Adelphi, Maryland, a town that borders College Park. UMUC is one of eleven divisions of the University of Maryland and provides quality educational opportunities for primarily non-traditional adult students. UMUC developed as a result of the popularity of evening programs for adults that were offered by the University of Maryland in the 1920’s. The University of Maryland established the College of Special and Continuation Studies (CSCS) in 1947, and in 1959 it became the University of Maryland College. The UMUC became an independent university in 1970, and in 1988 it became part of the University System of Maryland.

    The UMUC offers associate's, bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees in professional subjects, all of which can be earned online or in hybrid formats.
