University of Maryland at University College offers a Certificate in Instructional Technology Integration for students and educators that are developing career opportunities and their knowledge of educational strategies that are supplemented by the utilization of technology. Students will learn about K-12 teaching and learning through technology and learn to integrate technology into curriculum, instruction and assessment. Students will learn to use technology to communicate and collaborate with various school stakeholders as well as analyze and collect student data.
Individuals in the program will learn about adapting educational technology utilized by online and distance education as well as design and implementation of online classrooms. Those classes include orientation to graduate studies at UMUC, foundations of technology in teaching and learning, teaching information and media literacies in the digital world, design and pedagogy of web-based teaching and learning, and research, data, and best practices of using technology for instructional improvement.
Students completing the program will be qualified in the use of technology utilized for the development of educational opportunities. Those qualifications include the ability to apply the design and implement conditions for learning by applying principles, theories, and research associated with instructional systems design, message design, instructional strategies, and learner characteristics, to develop instructional materials and experiences by applying principles, theories, and research related to print, audiovisual, computer-based, and integrated technologies, to use processes and resources for learning by applying principles, theories, and research related to media utilization, diffusion, implementations, and policy making, to plan, organize, coordinate, and supervise instructional technology by applying principles, theories, and research related to project, resource, delivery system, and information management, and to demonstrate the ability to apply common technology tools to create innovative learning solutions and materials.

The University of Maryland, University College is a public university that was founded in 1947. The main headquarters of UMUC is in Adelphi, Maryland, a town that borders College Park. UMUC is one of eleven divisions of the University of Maryland and provides quality educational opportunities for primarily non-traditional adult students. UMUC developed as a result of the popularity of evening programs for adults that were offered by the University of Maryland in the 1920’s. The University of Maryland established the College of Special and Continuation Studies (CSCS) in 1947, and in 1959 it became the University of Maryland College. The UMUC became an independent university in 1970, and in 1988 it became part of the University System of Maryland.
The UMUC offers associate's, bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees in professional subjects, all of which can be earned online or in hybrid formats.
