University of Maryland at University College offers a Certificate in Financial Management in Organizations for students and professionals who are interested in complementing their career opportunities with training in matters of finance and financial management. Students will learn about the role of finance in planning, decision making, and investments, and how financial planners are utilized by organizations to plan ongoing business or investment activity. Students will study materials relating to financial management, financial services, and information systems. Those classes include orientation to graduate studies at UMUC, financial decision making for managers, financial management in organizations, capital markets, institutions, and long-term financing, investment valuation, and financial analysis and modeling.
Through completion of the program, students will have demonstrated their qualifications to function professionally in finance in various roles within an organizational structure. Those qualifications include the ability to demonstrate an extensive and practical knowledge-base of theory, tools, skills, practices, and research related to business finance and be able to apply these to the problems and opportunities that are encountered, to demonstrate effective professional and interpersonal practices essential in finance and information management, to develop a range of professional strategies that promote their effectiveness in a business environment, and to demonstrate ethical, legal, and responsible behavior and explain the broader role that business has in society and their own responsibilities as a member of the business community and citizens in society.

The University of Maryland, University College is a public university that was founded in 1947. The main headquarters of UMUC is in Adelphi, Maryland, a town that borders College Park. UMUC is one of eleven divisions of the University of Maryland and provides quality educational opportunities for primarily non-traditional adult students. UMUC developed as a result of the popularity of evening programs for adults that were offered by the University of Maryland in the 1920’s. The University of Maryland established the College of Special and Continuation Studies (CSCS) in 1947, and in 1959 it became the University of Maryland College. The UMUC became an independent university in 1970, and in 1988 it became part of the University System of Maryland.
