The qualifications demonstrate that the student has been able to apply the principles they have learned in the program into their eventual development as a functional affective professional in their field. Those qualifications include utilizing theory and research to analyze historical trends and current perspectives in criminal justice, how to use research to evaluate factors related to crime and the impact of crime on criminal justice policies, practices, and procedures, how to evaluate the impact of the constitutional policy and procedures on the criminal justice system, and how to analyze the impact of the criminal justice process on victims and perpetrators.

The University of Maryland, University College is a public university that was founded in 1947. The main headquarters of UMUC is in Adelphi, Maryland, a town that borders College Park. UMUC is one of eleven divisions of the University of Maryland and provides quality educational opportunities for primarily non-traditional adult students. UMUC developed as a result of the popularity of evening programs for adults that were offered by the University of Maryland in the 1920’s. The University of Maryland established the College of Special and Continuation Studies (CSCS) in 1947, and in 1959 it became the University of Maryland College. The UMUC became an independent university in 1970, and in 1988 it became part of the University System of Maryland.
