Program Overview

The University of Kentucky (UK) offers a hybrid Master of Education, Education Specialist degree (EdS). The Education Specialist program provides students with the knowledge and skills needed to become successful and influential in the education field. This degree program may be useful for students wanting to pursue careers in higher education and community college leaders and teachers. This program is customizable and may be partnered with many elements to create an educational leadership program geared toward the students’ interests and needs.

The curriculum provides students with a variety of courses such as School Safety and Discipline Leadership, School Law and Ethics, Securing and Developing Staff, School Technology Leadership, and much more. In addition to taking the leadership core classes, students must also participate in one graduate level statistics course.

The University of Kentucky requires students to complete 30 credit hours to fulfill the requirements of this program. Once admitted into the program, students will be assigned an advisor and will meet with them during the first semester to create an individualized curriculum contract that will be reviewed each year and updated accordingly. Students will also be required to complete a summative assessment, in which they will select an assignment from one completed course that has an action research component and work to revise and expand the paper for the oral exam.

    School Overview

    University of Kentucky is a four-year public school located in Lexington, Kentucky. UK was founded by John Bowman in 1865 as the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Kentucky. The school is the largest college/university in the state of Kentucky with 28,094 students as of Fall 2011. UK’s campus is about 80 miles south of Cincinnati and 200 miles northeast of Nashville. The campus lies on over 800 acres and has 15 libraries in that area. The campus is divided roughly into three parts: the North campus, the Central campus, and the South campus.

    University of Kentucky offers bachelor’s degrees, certificates, master’s degrees, and doctor’s degrees. Students are divided into 16 colleges, a graduate school, and hundreds of degree programs.
