Distance Education Graduate Certificate
University of Kentucky
The University of Kentucky (UK) offers an online Distance Education Graduate Certificate program. The completely online environment of this course offers students increased flexibility and convenience of attending class during their free time. This program was designed to meet the rapidly increasing student demands and to stay in line with the large number of postsecondary institutions in public health, government and private businesses, who are all developing distance learning programs.
The Distance Education Graduate Certificate requires a special set of skills in course program development, management, support and delivery. UK has met these demands and skills by preparing their faculty to offer these distance education certificates in collaboration in the Department of Special Education and Rehabilitation Counseling and the Department of Curriculum and Instruction.
Graduates from this program have the potential to be more marketable and skilled during their search for a job or promotion. This program may be ideal for those in the private sector, graduate and doctoral students, faculty, distance learning administrators, teachers creating online programs, and government employees.
The University of Kentucky requires students to complete 12 credit hours. Students will choose a concentration, based on their interests, from either the Department of Special Education and Rehabilitation Counseling or the Department of Curriculum and Instruction. Students may also have the ability to complete the certificate under cross-listed courses through the graduate school. Each concentration requires students to take two foundation courses and two elective courses. Based on the concentration chosen, students will take a variety of courses such as instructional computing, instructional design, video for multimedia and distance learning, and advanced practicum: special education technology, among others.
