Ed.D Professional Practice in Education
University of Hawaii offers the Doctor of Education program in Professional Practice for professionals in the field of administration and education who want to assume influential roles in their educational institution and community by focusing on the concept of educators as leaders and effecting change and improving student learning. Candidates are expected to follow the program to complete certain learning expectations, as part of the goals of the Teacher Leadership program. Some of the required courses involved in this program include Educational Technology, Leadership and governance, and Qualitative Research Methods.
Through the program, students should have demonstrated their mastery and contribution to the field of education, as well as their capabilities as professional educators. Goals in this program involve students understanding knowledge of the current literature and trends in education, demonstrating the reflective teaching and learning skills needed by a professional in the field of education, and utilizing effective communication skills in presenting academic research so as to elicit social change. Students should also be able to identify and propose a solution to educational problems, to demonstrate leadership via effective communication and use of technology, to utilize effective communication skills in presenting academic research so as to elicit social changes, and to demonstrate the ability to collaborate with a range of stakeholders in education and/or learning organizations in order to effect positive social change, and demonstrate active commitment to social change.
