Certificate of Competence in Graphic Design
Bring out your inner creativity with Leeward Community College’s Certificate of Competence Graphic Design program. This certification only requires completion of nine credits, in which students may finish in one short semester. Graphic designers use visualization and styling to communicate certain visual messages and ideas. Those who participate in this program will explore the different areas involved in this field, and how to apply them to a potential position in graphic design.
The classes students are required to take are as follows: Introduction to Digital Drawing, Digital Art, and Introduction to Layout Design. These classes will help any student interested in graphic design get his/her fundamental skills in what can be expected if he/she pursued a career in graphic design. Students also will gain skills in the practical, technical, and theoretical portions of graphic design. Students can expect to potentially attain jobs in publication and print promotion to start their careers. Additional training or education would be necessary for anything above an entry-level position. The information learned in this program can be used towards programs in higher education, should students wish to pursue a 2 or 4-year degree from a college or university.
