Program Overview

The University of Florida’s Certificate Program in Nonprofit Management is intended for leadership professionals who would like to go from working in an organization to leading the organization. This program’s distance learning format was designed with working professionals in mind; these professionals may not have the option to pursue a traditional certificate on-campus due to family, location, or work commitments. This program aims to introduce a balance between convenience and flexibility found in an online certificate program, while still offering the same educational standards found in traditional certificate programs.

Through this program, students will learn about the following skills that are necessary in working in the nonprofit sector: strategic planning, governance & leadership, policy & decision making, marketing & public relations, fundraising & volunteer development, and risk management ethics. The core curriculum of this graduate-level certificate program consists of four classes, or 12 semester hours.

Throughout this course of study, students will take courses spanning topics such as Leadership for Nonprofit Organizations, Policy Issues & Case Studies in Nonprofit Organizations, Fundraising for Community Nonprofit Organizations, and Risk Management for Nonprofit Organizations. These courses utilize audio and video lectures, electronic slideshows, chat interactions with faculty members, guest lectures, and study guides designed to support mastery of the material. Additionally, the faculty members charged with giving these lecture strive to give online students the same level of academic excellence that students on-campus receive on a daily basis.
