Master of Engineering in Materials Science and Engineering
University of Florida
The University of Florida’s Master of Engineering in Materials Science and Engineering is a broad course of study with five different from which to choose. This program is delivered through the university’s College of Engineering and administered under the Department of Materials Science and Engineering. The field of Materials Science and Engineering applied the fundamental principles of physics and chemistry to engineering materials, placing a special emphasis on the interrelationship between material structure, their properties, and the means by which they are processed.
As previously mentioned, the interdisciplinary nature of Materials Science and Engineering made the creation of five different concentrations necessary, which students can choose to pursue based on their personal interests and professional goals. These five concentrations are General Studies, Metal Materials, Polymer Materials, Structural Materials, and Electronic Materials. All of these concentrations are non-thesis programs, and consist of ten courses, or 30 credits. The field of Materials Science and Engineering has significant impact on multiple facts of the economy, including aerospace, electronics, transportation, communication, construction, recreation, entertainment, environment, and energy. Due to its broad nature, graduates of this program may expect a wide variety of employment opportunities, with the most common work settings including research development, academia, national and industrial labs. Graduates of this program may possess knowledge and skills necessary to develop new materials, processes and fundamental research on the interrelationship between processing, structure, and properties of assorted materials.
