Program Details

The University of Florida’s Graduate Certificate in Landscape Pest Management is a course of study that is offered through an entirely online format. This program is administered through the university’s College of Agricultural and Life Sciences, and through the Department of Entomology and Nematology. This program is designed for individuals who are currently professionals in the landscape industry, or related areas, and who desire to receive advanced training on turf, ornamental, and tree pests. In addition to an introduction to insects and their identification, this course of study includes courses on horticultural insect pests, nematodes, and plant diseases.

This program’s distance learning delivery was designed with working professionals in mind who wouldn’t normally have the freedom to pursue a traditional graduate certificate on-campus due to family, location, or work commitments. This program aims to find a balance between the maximum convenience and flexibility found in an online program, and maintaining the academic excellence of an upper-level certificate from an educational institution such as the University of Florida. The core curriculum of this program consists of five courses, or 15 semester hours. Students are able to hand-select the five courses from an extensive list that appeals most to their personal interests and professional goals. Some of the classes discuss topics such as Insect Classification, Tree & Shrub Insects, Insects & Wildlife, and Principles of Pesticides. Through the diverse and thorough education provided through the Graduate certificate in Landscape Pest Management program, students may be equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in this field.

Students must have a bachelor's degree.
