Program Overview

The University of Florida’s (UF) Certificate program in Executive Practice Management for Dentists is a 13-month course of study offered through an entirely online format. This professional program is offered through UF’s College of Dentistry and is meant to prepare dentists to become business owners and executive managers within their dental practices. This program was designed with working dentists in mind who wouldn’t normally have the freedom to pursue a traditional certificate on-campus due to family, location, or work commitments. This program aims to strike the delicate balance between the maximum convenience and flexibility found in an online program. Through this program, students may be able to further their education and enrich their careers without sacrificing their work and family life.

The curriculum of this certificate program focuses on the critical components of business ownership not typically taught within traditional dental education programs. The overall goal of this program is to increase dentists’ business knowledge and skills by teaching students the critical aspects of finance, operations, and HR management. This program is split up into 13 modules, each focusing on a different business-centric topic and accompanied by relevant projects. Some of the modules involved in this program span topics such as Business Planning, Staffing a Practice, Operational Overhead, and Dental Leadership. Each module’s duration is approximately one month, making the length of the entire program approximately 13 months. Upon completion of the modules, graduates should have a firm understanding of finance, overall practice operations, human resources, and practice sales. Through this affordable, comprehensive, and convenient program, dentists may have the opportunity to make the critical leap from clinical dentist to business owner.
