Certificate in Environmental Policy Management
The University of Florida offers a graduate level Certificate in Environmental Policy Management which is completed through an entirely online format. This certificate is delivered through the university’s College of Engineering and under the Department of Environmental Engineering Sciences. This program is intended for professionals who are working in, or wish to become more educated about, environmental policy and management. Through this course of study, these students can become certified in a variety of environmental policy and management specializations without formally pursuing graduate degrees.
This program’s curriculum pulls courses from the Department of Environmental Engineering, the College of Law, and the Food and Resource Economics Department of the College of Agriculture. This multidisciplinary approach aims to give the student a thorough and diverse education in the area of environmental policy and management. The courses that students take through this program emphasize the areas of scientific, technologic, economic, legal, political, and social dimensions of policy foundation and implementation and environmental management. This program consists of five courses, or 15 credit hours. Four of these courses are required, and the fifth is an elective course which the student can choose based on their personal interests and professional goals. Some of the required courses span topics such as Environmental Policy, Principles of Industrial Ecology, Ecological Engineering, and Restoration Planning. Some of the electives cover topics such as Water Quality Analysis, Spring Systems, Biological Wastewater Management, and Wetlands Ecology. Through this program, students may be able to build a foundation in Environmental Policy Management, and greatly expand job opportunities in this field.
