Master of Science in Engineering / Materials Science
University of California-Los Angeles

Program Details

The online Master of Science in Engineering with a concentration in Materials Science program provides an understanding of the microstructure of solids which is at the heart of materials science.  Students will look at the microstructures of solids at various levels, especially the defects, and how they profoundly influence the mechanical, electronic, chemical, and biological properties of solids.  The curriculum also looks at the phenomenological and mechanistic relationships between the microstructure and the macroscopic properties of solids.  Graduates will understand the design, fabrication, and testing of engineering materials and how they must simultaneously fulfill dimensional properties, quality control, and economic requirements.
