Program Overview

The University of West Florida Department of Accounting and Finance offers an online graduate Certificate in Professional Accountancy. This certificate is designed for students and accounting professionals with bachelor’s degrees in accounting or the equivalent, who need three additional accounting/tax courses and the second law course required to sit for the CPA examination in Florida. This certificate may be obtained after 12 credit hours, and is completed entirely online.

Students may choose their 12 credit hours from a list of nine approved courses. Some of these courses include Corporate Income Tax, Governmental and Non-Profit Accounting, and Estate Gift and Trust Taxation. Each of the nine courses is worth three semester credit hours.

Students who successfully graduate from this program should be prepared for potential licensure in Florida. Prospective out-of-state students who will be pursuing a license in their state should check with that state's licensing agency before enrolling. Some of the graduates of this program are now successfully pursuing careers in public accounting as auditors, consultants, and tax practitioners, in industry as financial and operational managers, and in government in a variety of roles.
