Program Details

The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley offers a Master Reading Teacher Credential Certification program. This is designed for PreK-12 educators who are looking for advanced knowledge on teaching children how to learn and read. There is a focus on struggling readers and bilingual readers as well.


  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution
  • Undergraduate GPA of at least 3.0, or minimum GRE scores of 150 Verbal, 141 Quantitative, and 4.0 Analytical
  • Official transcripts from each institution attended
  • One to two page personal statement
  • Two letters of recommendation from professional or academic sources
  • Minimum of 15 undergraduate hours in reading or a related field
  • A copy of the applicant's Teacher Service Record showing 2 years teaching experience
  • Personal interview
