A dramatic rise in the number of students entering schools from non-English speaking households has changed the face of the New York Metro area and increased the need for educators adept in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). The Advanced Certificate in TESOL prepares holders of initial or professional New York State certification to support English Language Learners (ELLs) from Kindergarten to Grade 12.
- A master's degree
- Official transcripts showing a B (3.0 GPA) or better average
- New York State initial teacher certification or eligibility for teaching certification
- Proficiency in English
- You must take and submit the results from one of the three possible exams for you to be considered for admission: Graduate Record Exam (GRE) or Miller Analogies Test (MAT) or PRAXIS Core
Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP)
The Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) now administers both NCATE and TEAC accreditation. Current accreditation status under NCATE and TEAC for education programs will continue through the accreditation term, during which they will be CAEP Eligible.
