Program Details

The Bachelor of Arts in Special Education from St. Andrews University is an online special education degree for those interested in teaching children with mild disabilities through the General K-12 curriculum.  This program provides the knowledge, skills, and dispositions needed to provide developmentally appropriate learning experiences for special needs students in special and general education settings as they work toward higher cognitive development stages.  Courses develop skills and knowledge in:

  • Teaching students with disabilities in grades K-12
  • Special Education laws 
  • Special Education policies
  • Human growth and development theories applied to students with disabilities

You will gain an awareness and competency that will allow you to apply basic principles of curriculum planning and implement them to meet the diverse needs of these students.  Coursework includes participation in field experiences, practicums, and community events related to students with disabilities, such as the Special Olympics.  You will use these experiences as a basis for decision-making and professional growth.
