Family nurse practitioners provide primary care to patients throughout their lives.

As a student of this accelerated RN to MSN Nurse Practitioner program, you can continue to work while learning the advanced nursing practice and management skills you need to act as an autonomous primary care provider in a complex healthcare environment.

Much emphasis is placed on evidence-based research, clinical practice and the societal factors that affect quality care. You can complete your clinicals in your own home region under the guidance of your choice of preceptor. Once you complete one of these program tracks you are eligible to sit for the Adult-Gerontological, Primary Care NP national board certification examination.*

    Requirements

    Admissions: Associate degree in nursing or diploma in nursing leading to RN licensure; Official transcripts; 3.0 GPA or higher (from the most recent 60 academic credits); Unrestricted, unencumbered, current nursing license from the state of employment (license must be kept current throughout the program); Two letters of recommendation; A two-page goal.

    Practicum/Clinical Requirements:  Minimum one year experience working as a registered nurse preferred; Evidence of current professional malpractice insurance (minimum $1/3 million prior to Senior Nursing Project); Compliance with all institutional requirements prior to Senior Nursing Project; CPR/BLS certification as required; Proof of TB testing, and any required immunizations; HIPAA training; and any additional requirements.

    An internship is required for this program. Convicted felons may be limited to the type of location or client population in which their internships may be conducted (in regulation with the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Care Organizations).
