Master of Education in Educational Leadership
The Master of Education in Educational Leadership is a program ideal for teachers who wish to refocus their educational careers to administration in a K-12 school system. With an emphasis in Christian values, students will learn how to manage and create a school community as principals or assistant principals. Students will explore the idea of leading others as means to serve God. The online program is designed with working teachers in mind. Individuals can take between one and four courses per semester and thus complete the program at their own pace
The program of study includes courses in the design, implementation, and evaluation of curricula and other instruction programs. Students will explore the various skills of leadership within an educational facility including administrative practices and the idea of servant leadership. Students will be taught lifelong learning theories, communication skills for leaders, practices in student assessment and achievement, and financial management in a school system. Other skills may involve learning about public school policy and law as well as national technology competencies used in administration.
Each course requires a field study experience, which can be completed locally. The last semester contains a practicum at a local educational site, where students will work under supervision in order to gain hands-on experience. During the practicum students should be able to apply the theories they’ve learned to real world situations. Upon completion of the courses students can take the Florida Educational Leadership Examination (this is the program’s exit requirement). Following successful completion of each exam section and the three years of teaching experience, students may apply for Educational Leadership certification in Florida.
