Microsoft Excel Application Professional
Southeastern Technical College
The Microsoft Excel Application Professional Certificate program at Southeastern Technical College is intended to help students gain the skills and knowledge necessary to effectively work with the Microsoft Excel Application in an office setting. As this is a certificate program, completion of it can strengthen the resumes or transcripts of students that have earned or plan to pursue a degree program, regardless of the subject. The program may also bolster the chances of a graduate landing an entry-level position in an office assistant or administrative support role. The certificate also gives some short-term training to students that seek career advancement in their current occupation.
To complete the program, candidates must earn a minimum of 15 credit hours, a total that can typically be finished in a two semester period. This program is offered entirely online, providing flexibility to working students that may have demanding schedules. The credit total comes from five hours of general core classes and 10 hours of occupational courses.
The general core begins with a College Success and Survival Skills class that gives students preparation for the rest of the program or continuing education after the completion of the program. Following this, candidates select either Business Math, which strengthens mathematical skills in business-related problem solving, or Foundations of Mathematics, a class that readies candidates for using basic mathematics in occupational and technical problems by instructing in fundamentals, measurement and conversion, and basic statistics. Seven of the 10 hours of occupational courses come from prescribed classes, while the remaining three are satisfied by an open elective chosen by the student.
