Master of Science in Nursing / Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner
Professionals with a registered nursing license can pursue an MSN in Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner degree at South University. The program is adapted to the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AANC) Master’s Essentials, in order to prepare nurses for advanced careers in the healthcare environment. The Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner specialization targets areas of elder care, and the management of adolescent and adult health, including: diagnosis and treatment strategies, health promotion and prevention, prescribing and managing medications, lab diagnostics, making referrals, and providing educational support to communities and at-risk populations.
The Master of Science in Nursing degree program requires students to complete 24 core curriculum credits, and an added 32 credits in Adult Gerontology Primary Care Practitioner courses. Students will have the opportunity to complete four supervised clinical practicums, requiring a minimum of 600 hours. Adult-gerontology primary care nurse practitioners must also successfully pass the national certification exam, certified by the AANC and the AANP associations.
