Program Overview

The High School Diploma and Certificate: Certified Protection Officer program offered by Smart Horizons Career Online High School provides students the opportunity to earn a high school diploma. The 18 credit hour program offers students career-based high school diplomas, preparing them for professional employment. The flexible schedule allows working individuals to learn at their own pace. Courses are taught by a team of certified teachers, students are immersed in a positive learning atmosphere promoting academic growth.

Completing the High School Diploma and Certificate in Certified Protection Officer prepares students for employment performing security work or protection officer. Students will complete courses covering workplace violence, fire prevention, physical security, traffic control, and operational risk management.

Although Smart Horizon’s programs are taken independently online, students are not alone. Assistance and support is always available and encouraged for students who need it.

Earning a high school diploma through Smart Horizons, students receive an education from an accredited school as well as a career certificate. To earn a High School Diploma, the students must complete all required coursework, and prepare a Career Portfolio. Help may be accessed through Career Development Support Services.

By successfully completing the High School Diploma and Certificate in Certified Protection Officer, graduates earn a High School Diploma and Certificate, granted by Smart Horizons Career Online High School.

    Smart Horizons recognizes possible earned credits for transfer and has been approved by DANTES (Defense Activity for Non-traditional Education Support).

    Smart Horizons has built-in support mechanisms to guide students through the online diploma process. Classes begin on a rolling basis, are self-paced and taught asynchronously. After enrolling, students can access a Virtual Welcome Kit that provides important orientation information.

    The Online Student Campus allows students 24/7 access, immediate feedback on assignments and tests, and resources such as Gradebook, Pace Guide, eLibrary, Calendar, and Academic Support Services.

    Students can also contact an Academic Coach and instructors as needed. In addition to class work, biweekly seminars and monthly career webinars build skills for employment. Students learn how to create a portfolio, a resume, and write an effective cover letter.

    Upon successful graduation, students will receive a high school diploma and career certificate, complete with a portfolio to prepare them for employment.
