Program Details

The Master of Social Work from Simmons University is an online MSW with a concentration in Health & Aging for those interested in this area of social work.  With the Health & Aging concentration, you will take a sequence of courses designed to provide advanced knowledge and skills that will help you work with clients in this population or those affected by someone in this group.

All students earning an online master’s in social work degree study social policy, theories of human development, relational and group process, cultural learning, and models of therapeutic practice.  Courses cover a large variety of practice methods and theoretical frameworks that students will be able to use in future practice, including:

  • ecological systems theory
  • human development
  • sociocultural theory
  • psychodynamic theory
  • cognitive behavioral theory

Hands-on field education opportunities are an important part of the curriculum, allowing students to develop confidence while integrating classroom learning into practice.  Graduates are committed to social justice and the professional code of ethics; they are prepared to understand client problems, issues, and needs in a variety of settings.
