The Master of Social Work with a concentration in Trauma & Interpersonal Violence is an online MSW from Simmons College. Students will complete a structured sequence of courses in Trauma & Interpersonal Violence, allowing them to gain the advanced skills needed to pursue careers and interests in this area. Coursework provides the skills needed to work with those affected by trauma and interpersonal violence in a variety of settings, including schools, prison systems, and health facilities.
In addition to the courses in the concentration, all students completing an online master’s in social work study models of therapeutic practice, theories of human development, relational and group process, cultural learning, and social policy. Courses cover a variety of theoretical frameworks and practice methods that can later be used in practice, including:
- ecological systems theory
- human development
- sociocultural theory
- psychodynamic theory
- cognitive behavioral theory
An important part of the curriculum is the hands-on field education that allows students to develop confidence while integrating classroom learning into practice. Graduates are prepared to understand client problems, issues, and need in various settings while showing commitment to social justice and the professional code of ethics.
