Shawnee Community College was organized as a Class I community college in September of 1967. Created to serve Southern Illinois and its people, the college district covers all of Alexander, Massac, Pulaski, Union and parts of Johnson and Jackson counties. Shawnee Community College’s mission is "to serve the needs of the student and our diverse community by providing quality higher education, community education, training, and services that are accessible, affordable, and promote life-long learning."
Offering associate's degrees and certificates, students can transfer to four-year universities or advance in their careers. Many programs are offered completely online.
