Program Overview

The Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, Georgia, offers a Master of Arts in Interior Design. The curriculum is 45 credit hours completed through nine courses. These courses include: Interior Design Seminar, Interior Design Theory & Criticism, Research Methods for Interior Design, Emerging Interior Materials, Human Response to the Built Environment, Contemporary Issues in Interior Design, Interior Design MA Final Project, and two 500 to 700-level electives.

The MA Interior Design program is ideal for individuals who want to bolster their knowledge of interior design in a holistic approach. The Interior Design program at SCAD teaches students to become innovative designers in the field, while learning about a variety of disciplines. Related subjects of architecture, historical preservation, and furniture design are integrated into the curriculum, which provides students with a holistic perspective. Students are also challenged in a professional environment. Additionally, the program emphasizes the importance of environmental friendly practices, in addition to professional ethics and values.

Students complete a wide array of projects in commercial, residential, and institutional settings; they will learn how to tackle environmental, decorative, behavioral, and technical issues in interior design, while emphasizing social responsibility and sustainability.

    Applicants must hold a bachelor's degree or should anticipate completion of a bachelor's degree before enrollment in the graduate program. All applicants are evaluated individually according to previous educational experience and level of achievement.

    School Overview

    Founded in 1978, the private not-for-profit Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) first opened its doors in the historic Savannah Volunteer Guard Armory. Though the structure still remains vital to the campus, SCAD has expanded globally. The college has four physical campuses located in Atlanta, Savannah, Hong Kong, and Lacoste, France, as well as an eLearning program. The stated mission of SCAD is "to prepare talented students for professional careers, emphasizing learning through individual attention in a positively oriented university environment."

    SCAD confers bachelor’s and master’s degrees. Students can pursue certificate, bachelor’s, and master’s degree programs through SCAD eLearning. Courses at SCAD’s online campus mirror those of its physical campuses with “one-on-one attention” delivered by the same highly qualified instructors. Students have the option to complete their entire degree online, or blend eLearning with on-campus coursework.
