Program Details

The Associate of Arts in Sociology from San Bernardino Valley College is an online sociology degree that is a transfer degree.  This degree is designed for those planning on transferring to a four-year institution to complete a bachelor’s degree and want to use this program as a way to begin above the freshman level.  The curriculum includes basic introductory courses in sociology, social problems, institutions, and social inequality, along with general education courses.  

A degree in sociology involves the study of societies, including analyzing the institutions, groups, processes, and social lives of people as a means of understanding and predicting social interactions and change.  You will gain an understanding of human life that can then be used for careers in social work and counseling, probation, corrections, law enforcement, research, public policy, education, and more.  Courses examine sociology as both a scientific and humanistic discipline, studying the systems of social action including:
