B.S. in Marketing
Salve Regina currently offers a Bachelor of Science in Marketing, a degree that emphasizes marketing decision-making and development with a mix of creative and quantitative content. Students will learn and develop marketing strategies that give value to the consumer. Marketing involves conveying the value of a product to the consumer, usually a targeted group, in order to sell the product, thereby making it a vital part of any customer-based business. Students can also enroll in a joint Bachelor’s/Master’s program which can lead to Master’s degrees in Business Administration or Management. Upon graduation, students will have to opportunity to find employment in any type of business as a marketing specialist or other similar positions.
To complete this degree, students must take classes in the core curriculum, business curriculum, and marketing curriculum. Students must earn credits that are included in SRU’s core curriculum in order to get a rounded and thorough education. These include classes in the humanities, the arts, math, and natural sciences. These requirements provide students with basic knowledge of current ideas and topics as well as the ability to think critically and foster their own ideas.
Besides core classes, students must take all the required courses in business. These include courses in financial and managerial accounting, business communication, principles of marketing, business law and ethics, and strategic planning. Requirements also include a selection of marketing courses with courses on microeconomics and marketing strategies and communications. Students must also select two additional marketing courses that focus on their area of interest. Finally, students must complete an internship to earn their degree.
