Salve Regina University currently offers an Accounting Bachelor of Science, which is designed to give students the knowledge and skills needed for a career in Accounting. A degree in accounting will allow students to gain knowledge and skills in financial, tax, and cost accounting areas. Accountants assemble, analyze, process, and communicate important information about financial operations. Students will have course work in accounting principles, theories, and practice. Students will also study business law, finance, management, and economics. Other courses include the study of communications, computer applications, financial analysis, critical thinking skills and ethics in order for the student to develop other skills related to their degree.
Students must take a set of business core requirements to complete this degree. These include classes in financial and managerial accounting, macroeconomics, business communication, marketing, business ethics, business law, and statistical methods. Students must also take classes in SRU’s core curriculum in order to get a rounded and thorough education. These include classes in the humanities, the arts, math, and natural sciences.
Upon graduation, students will be eligible for accounting positions in several types of companies and institutions such as accounting or manufacturing firms, small businesses, banks, schools, hospitals, and various governmental agencies. Careers include four major fields: public accounting, management accounting, government accounting, and internal audit. Students can also start up their own accounting businesses. Accounting graduates can obtain advance certification such as Public Accountant Certification. Salve Regina has a joint Bachelor’s/Master’s program which can lead to a Master’s degree in Business Administration or management; these degrees can help students obtain more certifications.

Salve Regina University was founded in 1934 and continues today as a private, Catholic institution of higher learning located in the city of Newport, Rhode Island. This co-educational, non-profit school that was chartered by the State of Rhode Island in 1934. The name Salve Regina means “Hail Holy Queen” in Latin. The school officially opened its doors in 1947 after the Sisters of Mercy acquired the land and the original building, Ochre Court. In the 1970s, the college became co-educational and added graduate programs. In 1991, the school was granted university status and finally added the doctoral programs in 1995.
Salve Regina University awards associate’s, bachelor's, and master's degrees, as well as graduate certificates and doctoral degrees. In addition to the traditional on-campus courses, Salve Regina offers a variety of online and distance education learning programs for both traditional and nontraditional students.
