Salve Regina University currently offers a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies which is designed for students reentering college with previous course credits from other institutions. Because this program is flexible, students can plan and implement their own unique course of study using the credits they have. Students must have at least 60 undergraduate credits from an accredited institution to enroll in this program and have earned at least a grade of C in those classes. Students can also enroll in a joint Bachelor’s/Master’s program which can lead to Master’s degrees in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration/Management, or Management.
To complete this degree, students must earn at least 120 credit hours. Students must earn credits that are included in SRU’s core curriculum in order to get a rounded and thorough education. These include classes in the humanities, the arts, math, and natural sciences. These requirements provide students with basic knowledge of current ideas and topics as well as the ability to think critically and foster their own ideas. Besides the core classes, students must develop a concentration which will be approved by the dean of arts and sciences. The concentration must incorporate previously earned credits with six or more credits earned at SRU. The concentration must include at least 24 credits. Students can discuss their plans and desired academic goals with an academic advisor.
A general understanding of the role of a liberal studies education is that it provides people with knowledge that is essential for anyone to take part in and contribute to society. The balance of concentrating on a certain topic and general education is important in giving students a broad and thorough outlook on today’s society.

Salve Regina University was founded in 1934 and continues today as a private, Catholic institution of higher learning located in the city of Newport, Rhode Island. This co-educational, non-profit school that was chartered by the State of Rhode Island in 1934. The name Salve Regina means “Hail Holy Queen” in Latin. The school officially opened its doors in 1947 after the Sisters of Mercy acquired the land and the original building, Ochre Court. In the 1970s, the college became co-educational and added graduate programs. In 1991, the school was granted university status and finally added the doctoral programs in 1995.
Salve Regina University awards associate’s, bachelor's, and master's degrees, as well as graduate certificates and doctoral degrees. In addition to the traditional on-campus courses, Salve Regina offers a variety of online and distance education learning programs for both traditional and nontraditional students.
