Program Details

Art not only inspires, it can also inspire change in behavior.  SMWC's online MA in Art Therapy, enables you to become a helping professional that reaches others.  Through a curriculum emphasis in counseling, you will learn to help others heal through art, spiritually and creatively.  An internship plays an integral part of this MAAT online program, which also incorporates these subjects:

  • Drawing assessments
  • Clinical mental health treatment
  • Ethics
  • Research methodologies


This program requires short (4-5 day) residencies at the first of each semester, three times each year.

  • Bachelor's degree or higher
  • Official transcripts
  • GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Interview
  • Prerequisites in psychology, studio art and art media
  • Two letters of recommendation
  • Essay
  • Proof of English language proficiency, if applicable
