Bachelors Degree in Accounting Information Systems
Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College
Accounting and Bookkeeping are some of the most important parts of the business process. It’s vital that the owners and operators of a business understand their income and expenditures and correctly manage their costs, debts, and assets. Businesses have always needed highly skilled and highly trained Accountants. Accountants themselves though focus entirely on numbers and bookkeeping. The profession changed very little for hundreds of years, then changed dramatically in the 20th century due to development of the profession and development of computers which allows for an entirely new system of management for accountants to be possible.
Saint Mary of the Woods offers a Bachelor program in Accounting Information Systems to students interested in developing understanding of the technical aspects of accounting and the software and hardware used to do so. The program is a combination of accounting and computer information systems, and as such, students will be taking the role of programmer and accountant. This role is increasingly critical as all aspects of tax and finance are done entirely online.
Students will be a part of a business and technology curriculum which develops the understanding of business environments, bookkeeping, and computer environments. The program includes classes in business including accounting problems, taxes and tax laws, intermediate accounting, managerial accounting, auditing, financial analysis, reporting and research, governmental and non-profit accounting, financial accounting, international accounting, and advanced business law. In addition to that, students will study visual basic programming, system analysis and design, survey of computer information systems, and database concepts and designs.
