Program Details

Understanding the nature of human psychology has theoretical and philosophical underpinnings which require years of study to master. An understanding of psychology can be used to help individuals in need, increase the understanding of the mind, and develop techniques for business and organizations to help promote well-being of people in a professional or creative setting. The science of psychology is always in development, and professionals are not allowed to practice psychology in a professional setting as a psychologist, psychiatrist, counselor, or social worker without a formal education and extensive licensing. 

The online Bachelor of Science in Psychology will prepare students who seek knowledge and careers in psychology with the skills and understanding they need to develop themselves as professional psychologists. The structure of the department promotes coursework and fields placement that integrate experience and learning with study of psychology in a scientific setting. The program’s goals are to provide students with knowledge through these methods of study to prepare students for entry-level positions in human services professions, and to provide students with opportunities to examine and interpret human situations and relationships through psychological perspectives.

Students can expect to take a wide variety of classes dealing with different topics of psychology, including general psychology, psychology of women, developmental psychology, research methodology, learning development, biological psychology, abnormal psychology, personality development, psychological tests and measurements, human sexuality, adolescent psychology, topics in psychology, techniques of counseling, stress management, drug and alcohol addiction, social psychology, forensic psychology, crisis intervention, statistics, law, ethics, and society, sociology, and students will be required to complete a psychology internship and a practicum before completing the program.
