Online Certificate in Paralegal Studies

Saginaw Valley State University offers a two-part online Certificate in Paralegal Studies that will prepare the student to join the legal profession. This self-paced online program is convenient, practical, and affordable with classes beginning every-other month throughout the year. Students enrolled in this program will receive interactive, online content that is easy to manage and work through, one-on-one coaching with a mentor to assist students through the program and answer questions regarding the material, as well as a program syllabus outlining step-by-step instructions to complete each program.
The Executive Certificate in Paralegal Studies is the first portion of the program and a prerequisite for admission into the Advanced Certificate in Paralegal Studies. Each certificate is comprised of three courses and lasts six weeks; with a one-week break in between each course. The Executive Certificate courses include:
- Introduction to Legal Studies & Ethics
- Legal Research and Writing
- Civil Litigation
- Wills, Trusts, Estates and Probate
This certificate program offers unique benefits to all students by providing practical application to focus on the skills that employers most desire including interviewing clients, gathering facts, legal research, legal writing and much more. All students will create a portfolio of written motions, legal documents and legal writing as part of a Practicum Portfolio. The portfolio may be presented to prospective employers during job interviews. And this program provides placement services including resume writing, interview techniques and job placement assistance.
