The DNP Neonatal Nurse Practitioner degree online from Rush University is for those nurses seeking to advance their careers to the highest level possible while specializing in this acute care role.  In this position nurses provide care for high-risk infants from birth through two years of age, working collaboratively with an interprofessional team to ensure optimal patient care for the infants and their families.  The curriculum provides the knowledge and skills needed to competently meet the physiologic health care needs of critically ill and convalescing neonates in inpatient neonatal settings.  Courses include the study of pathophysiology, assessment, pharmacology, and physiology-based management. 

Graduates are able to meet the following responsibilities:

  • Delivery room resuscitation
  • Intubation and non-invasive respiratory management
  • Lumbar puncture
  • Umbilical line placement and suturing
  • Pleural needle aspiration

This program also provides a BSN to DNP path for RNs with just a bachelor's degree to earn their DNP.
