Rochester Institute of Technology offers a Certificate in Applied Statistics for students who are interested in developing their credentials in advanced and applied usage of statistical methodology and techniques in order to help design systems, plan actions, and predict behaviors, amongst a variety of other applications which can be performed with statistical analysis and inference. Students developing their education in statistics will be prepared for roles and responsibilities in modeling and simulations in a variety of engineering and business fields. The program is intended to give students and professionals in engineering, the sciences, analysis and other fields a certificate demonstrating their qualifications in advanced statistical analysis.
The program emphasizes fundamental and advanced practical understanding of the advanced theory and principles relating to statistics and the application of statistical techniques. The curriculum consists of 12 credit hours of courses which include regression analysis, foundations of experimental design, and several electives.
Students who successfully complete the statistics certificate program will have proven their mastery of the understanding of the fundamentals of probability, statistical methods, and data analysis, understanding of the applied usage of linear regression and analysis of variance, and the ability to solve problems dealing with sample spaces, random variables, conditional probability, counting techniques, special distributions, and central limit theorem.
Students will be expected to demonstrate understanding of statistical inference methodology, and the ability to utilize sample survey and design, analyze, and interpret the results of sample surveys.
