Program Overview

Rochester Community and Technical College offers a Liberal Arts Associate in Arts degree that provides a foundation for students who wish to transfer to a four-year college or university to pursue a variety of majors in the liberal arts category. Majors that are often pursued after achieving an Associate in Liberal Arts include Science, Mathematics, Philosophy, English, History, Languages, Geography, Political Science, International Affairs, as well as others.

This online program consists of 60 credit hours and can be completed in at least two years. Full- and part-time schedules are available for courses and can be started any semester. Full-time students can finish the program within four semesters and part-time students can expect to finish within six semesters.

Students enrolled in the Liberal Arts program at Rochester Community and Technical College are required to complete Minnesota Transfer Curriculum (MnTC) General Education requirements, Professionally-Related Business requirements, and Electives. The Minnesota Transfer Curriculum General Education requirements are classified into 10 goals. These goals include courses in the following categories: Written and Oral Communication, Critical Thinking, Natural Sciences or Mathematics/Logical Reasoning, History and the Social and Behavioral Sciences, Human Diversity, Global Perspective, Ethic and Civic Responsibility, People and the Environment, and The Humanities-the Arts, Literature, and Philosophy. The program requires three credits of Health and Physical Education. Finally, students must complete electives.

    Rochester Community and Technical College is a public, 2-year institution of higher learning located in the town of Rochester, Minnesota. The school was founded in 1915 and is the oldest public 2-year institution in the state of Minnesota. RCTC is now a member of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities System that serves the needs for higher education in Minnesota.
