Program Details

Rochester Community and Technical College offers a Healthcare Informatics Certificate, which is designed for students who wish to become health care professionals. In the Healthcare Informatics field, students will perform tasks similar to network security specialists and database administrators, except in the medical field. This program provides extensive training in database software, computer technology courses, handling health records, legal aspects of health records, and analysis/statistics. Students who complete this program can expect to work in medical settings such as hospitals or nursing facilities.

This online program consists of 24 credit hours and can be completed in less than one year. Full- and part-time schedules are available for courses and can be started any semester. A full-time schedule can be completed in two semesters and a part-time schedule can be completed in four semesters.

Students enrolled in the Healthcare Informatics program at Rochester Community and Technical College must complete Professionally Related Program requirements. These requirements include Introduction to Medical Terminology, Microcomputer Business Applications, Advanced Excel, Advanced Access, PowerPoint, Computer Voice Technology, Introduction to Health Records, Computerized Health Information, Legal Aspects of Health Information and Quality Analysis and Health Statistics.

Since this class is predominantly online, it is important that enrolled students ensure their computer meets program requirements. Students who enter this program must also be proficient in keyboarding by typing at least 35 words per minute. Enrolled students who do not meet this requirement are encouraged to enter a keyboarding course. Keyboarding course BTEC 1050 will not count towards credits required to complete the program.
