Administrative Assistant - Associate of Science
Rochester Community and Technical College offers an Administrative Assistant Associate of Science degree which provides extensive training in communications, current applications software, and other office-related technology. A student enrolled in this program will develop office skills and knowledge, valued by today’s employers. This online based program consists of 60 credit hours and can be completed in at least two years. Full- and part-time schedules are available for courses and can be started any semester.
Students enrolled in the Administrative Assistant Associate of Science program at Rochester Community and Technical College are required to complete Minnesota Transfer Curriculum (MnTC) General Education requirements and Professionally-Related Business Requirements. The Minnesota Transfer Curriculum General Education requirements are classified into six goals. These goals include courses in the following categories: Written and Oral Communication, Critical Thinking, Natural Sciences or Mathematics/Logical Reasoning, History and the Social and Behavioral Sciences, and The Humanities-the Arts, Literature, and Philosophy.
This program has been designed with extra general education requirements for students who may want to transfer to another program/institution. The Professionally-Related Business courses required for this program vary between one, two, three, and four credit courses. The courses that are required in this program include: Human Relations in Organizations, Machine Transcription, Quality Issues for Business Transcription, Word Processing I, Information Resource Management, Business Communications, Office Procedures, Word Processing II, Microcomputer Applications with PowerPoint, Customer Service Skills and Concepts, and Employment Strategies.
Students who enter this program must be proficient in keyboarding by typing at least 35 words per minute. Enrolled students who do not meet this requirement are encouraged to enter a keyboarding course. Keyboarding courses will not count towards credits required for the program.
