Program Overview

The Master of Science in Strategic Leadership from Roberts Wesleyan College is an online degree program offered to those who wish to advance their career in business. The Strategic Leadership major involves business, technology, and human development courses all of which help to prepare its graduates to be visionary, ethically-centered professionals. Skills and knowledge that students could learn in this program include the ability to evaluate process, strategize innovative practice, and position their organization for future success.

Classes meet one night a week and the program usually lasts 18 months. This program is based on the cohort and modular models, which are a team-based support system of learning and one class at a time. Classes in the modular system are usually five weeks long.

The core competencies this program aims to provide for its students include: stewardship, which maximizes resources to get optimal results; ethical formation and decision making, which is the integration of personal ethics, organizational values, and the pursuit of truthful data; the ability to develop strategies in human development; and the ability to effectively build teams, which uses a community’s skills, knowledge, and talents to effectively accomplish objectives.

Because Roberts Wesleyan College is a Christian school, the idea of servant-leadership is important to the ideas and concepts taught in this program.

Sample classes in this program include: Leadership Ethics, Strategic Leadership, Introduction to Case Development, Accounting for Strategic Decision-Making, Beyond Quality Management & Continuous Improvement, Financial Management, Organizational Diagnosis & Change Management, and Business Research Methods. The Capstone for this program is the BUS 560 Strategic Management. This project involves students presenting strategic recommendations and research regarding a specific case study.

These courses and the culminating capstone project all should reflect the skills and knowledge in strategic leadership such as defining the objectives of an enterprise, understanding competition, finding environmental opportunities, and balancing the interests of stakeholders.

It is important to note that this program requires two on-campus residencies.
