Program Overview

The Professional Enterprise Systems Certificate program is a fully online program offered by Robert Morris University. Enterprise systems are the applications a company or business relies on to handle multiple operations and coordinate key internal processes. Enterprise Systems can be anything from enterprise resource planning to customer relationship management software.

This program aims to give a student an integrated view of enterprise systems using IBM mainframe hardware, operating systems, and applications. It also covers basic knowledge of computer and essential computer software necessary for common workplace and personal use; as well as an introduction to VSAM, CICS, CICS COBOL, and instruction on the design, implementation, testing and application of an IBM DB2 enterprise database system.

This certificate consists of six three-credit hour classes that should be taken over the course of 15 months. These courses include: Introduction to Decision Support Systems, Introduction to COBOL, Advanced COBOL Programming, Enterprise Transaction Processing Systems using CICS/COBOL, Enterprise Operating Systems, and Enterprise Database Systems. These courses prepare students in competencies concerning knowledge of mainframe technology, computing on an enterprise scale, and the ability to communicate with business about the problems and solutions needed regarding an enterprise system.

This program aims to teach its graduates how to build, manage, and maintain complex enterprise systems across a variety of applications. Through a partnership with IBM, students have the opportunity to learn through the latest technology. This gives students of Robert Morris University an advantage. Entry-level positions and careers are available in such areas as aerospace, banking, financial services, software publishers, insurance, and the government.

    School Overview

    Robert Morris University is a private, not-for-profit institution located in Moon Township, which is a suburb of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The school was founded in 1921 as the Pittsburgh School of Accountancy. In 1962, the school purchased 230 acres which is at its current location. A short time later, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania granted the school permission to award associates degrees, and the school became Robert Morris Junior College. Around 2002, the university changed to its present day name.
