Program Overview

This Riverland Community College Customer Relations program prepares students for employment focusing around client relations. The role of a customer relations assistant involves handling telephone calls, greeting visitors and determining their needs, and scheduling appointments. Duties for a client relations assistant may include keyboarding documents, sorting and distributing mail, posting information to records, maintaining calendars, and file management. Customer Relations assistants must be able to use a wide variety of automated office equipment such as computers, calculators, scanners, photocopiers, fax machines, and switchboards.

Students will be trained in several business software applications, transcription/voice recognition software, and the use of correct business English. Upon completing this program the student will be able to successfully use information technology to improve individual and organizational performance, apply ergonomic principles while inputting data with speed and accuracy at industry standard, apply current and emerging technologies efficiently and accurately to business situations, and use interpersonal skills including effective listening and communicating that demonstrates professionalism.

    School Overview

    Riverland Community College is an institution located in Austin, Minnesota, and is part of the larger Minnesota State Colleges and Universities System. RCC was founded in 1940 as Austin Junior College. The school later changed its name to Austin Area Vocational-Technical School to match the technology-oriented academics offered at the institution. The title Riverland Community College was established in 1996 because of its merge with different schools in the region. Today the public, two-year college maintains campuses in Albert Lea and Owatonna, in addition to the Austin site, and promotes its mission as “a regional comprehensive community college inspiring learning for living through a personalized educational environment.”

    Riverland Community College offers career technical training and associate’s degrees. More than 350 Riverland courses are offered online or through hybrid formatting, and several programs are offered completely online.
