Richland currently offers a Management Associate in Arts Degree, which is a flexible program that offers business classes that can be tailored to meet specific needs of currently employed students. The program offers courses on practical management skills in areas of leadership, goal setting, problem solving, human resources, and team building. Because these skills are necessary not just for managers but for any successful employee, students can enhance their skill set and marketability on the job as well as demonstrate their ability to accept new challenges. This “real world” degree can be beneficial for aspiring managers as well as those who already have had managerial experience.
This degree requires a minimum of 60 credits and can be completed within two semesters. The first semester includes classes in supervision, principles of management, business, and composition. The second semester offers classes in Human Resources and math. The third semester offers classes in organizational behavior, accounting, economics, and communications. Finally, the fourth semester includes classes in problem solving and decisions making. Students also have the ability to select electives in humanities, sciences, and various business courses. Students must also take at least six hours from a college level course to satisfy certain electives. If a student wishes to transfer to a four year-school, they should consult with an advisor on the ability to transfer these courses.
Courses also include Management Cooperative Education, which is a unique experience and provides a great benefit to students. Courses in Management Cooperative teach students to apply management concepts to their current jobs and thus bridge the gap between theory and practice in their careers as professional managers. These classes focus on general Administration and Management and are required for all four semesters.
