Program Overview

Richland College currently offers a Human Resource Certificate, a program that falls under the Business Administration Degree Plan.  This certificate is designed for students who wish to gain entry-level employment in Human Resources.  Students who want to enter into higher education programs should consult with an admissions advisor.

This program requires a minimum of 18 credit hours and can be completed within two semesters.  First semester classes include Principles of Management, Accounting, and Organizational Behavior.  Second semester classes include Business Correspondence and Communication, Human Resources Management, and Business Administration and Management.

Human Resources comprises of the group of people who work in the various aspects of an organization, business, or an economy.  Because an institution regards its workforce as vital to maintain for the system to flourish and develop, many require a full-time manager or managing team to oversee and guide the workforce in order to make the most of those assets.

The Human Resource management is responsible for selecting, training, assessing, and rewarding employees as well as overseeing the overall leadership and culture of the workforce.  Managers also make sure the company is abiding by labor laws.  The Department of Human Resources is usually the liaison between employees and the company’s managers in certain cases.  The precise role of a manager or an assistant also depends on the size and nature of the institution.
