Associate in Sciences With a Field of Study in Business
Richland College currently offers an Associate in Sciences Degree with a Field of Study in Business. The curriculum is designed to help students who plan to transfer to a four-year college/university and major in Business. This study of business is approved by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board and consists of 61-66 credit hour transfer block to any public four year college in Texas. Although transferring students won’t be required to retake transferred courses, a receiving institution still may require additional lower-division courses for a specific degree program.
There are three tiers in this curriculum. The first tier involves Core Foundations and includes Critical Reading and Writing, Speaking and Listening (language), Wellness and the Human Experience (humanities) and Quantitative Reasoning (math). Tier two, (Core Domains) includes Qualitative Reasoning, Literacy and Research, Self and Society, Humanity, Creativity and the Aesthetic Experience, and Scientific Discovery and Sustainability. Finally, tier three (Integrative Learning) includes Critical Issues in Local, National, and Global Contexts.
Classes are either assigned or selected from each of these tiers in order to complete all the requirements. A student must also select 19-22 credit hours from classes of the study of Business.
In order to complete this degree, the student must have a grade point average (GPA) of at least a 2.00 as well as earn a “C” or better in certain subjects (see admissions page). Texas also has certain prerequisites that are included in the Texas Success Initiate (TSI).
Students who wish to transfer to another educational institution are advised to work directly with a counselor. Please note other institutions are not required to accept grades that are below a “C” when transferring.

Richland College is a public, two-year community college located in Dallas, Texas. Richland is a part of the Dallas County Community College District (DCCCD). The school was founded in 1972 and is currently the largest school in the DCCCD. Richland helps students build their future through courses that can be applied to the first two years of a baccalaureate degree, one- or two-year certificates in a number of career fields, and training in the latest technology for students who want to advance in their current careers.
