Program Overview

Raritan Valley Community College (RVCC) offers an Associate of Applied Science in Marketing degree for those interested in a job in advertising, marketing, retailing or sales. This program’s primary goal is to produce graduates who are prepared to directly enter the job market after completing the degree. It is not a transfer program; however, many graduates choose to continue their education and pursue a four year degree. The curriculum includes courses covering topics such as consumer behavior, principles of marketing, intercultural communication, advertising, direct and interactive marketing.

During the program, students learn to apply basic marketing principles to business decisions and construct a marketing plan for a product or service. Students identify the psychological and social factors that influence consumers in making purchase decisions and formulate market segmentation, target marketing and product positioning strategies. The program also includes a required capstone internship with an off-campus organization to provide students practical hands-on experience in their field. Although this degree is offered online, a few of the required courses may be only offered onsite at the college. However, RVCC assures that at least 85 percent of the courses are offered online.
