Liberal Arts-Social Science Option A.A.
Raritan Valley Community College
Raritan Valley Community College (RVCC) offers a variety of different concentrations in their Liberal Arts program. Within the Liberal Arts degree program one of the concentrations offered is a Social Science Liberal Arts degree. This degree is designed for those planning on pursuing a bachelor degree in a social science field such as anthropology, criminology, political science, psychology or sociology. It provides a solid academic foundation for students planning on entering a pre-law, social work, or public administration program. The program is also useful for those who are seeking employment immediately after graduation by providing students with a solid understanding of human behavior and social groups. Graduates of the program are able to communicate clearly and effectively in both written and spoken forms and identify ethical issues within various social science disciplines.
The curriculum includes an introduction to a variety of disciplines within the social sciences. Students planning to major in a particular discipline after transferring to a four year institution can still earn 12 credits towards that discipline. However, many colleges prefer that students take most of their coursework in their major at the institution. RVCC recommends that you seek advice from an academic counselor to ensure that your credits will easily transfer you in to another institution at a junior level.
Although this degree is offered online, a few of the required courses may be only offered onsite at the college. However, RVCC assures that at least 85 percent of the courses are offered online. To prepare students for studying online, RVCC offers special orientation programs that show students how to make the most of their online education.
